What is Consciousness-Based
Education?
Consciousness-Based Education™ is an internationally accredited
curriculum that includes the direct development of individual consciousness
in the education process. By 'consciousness' is meant the very inner life
or self of the student. A secure and solid inner state is the first priority
in any endeavour and especially in education. If the student is not ready
to learn what can a teacher teach him or her? The direct development of
consciousness is brought about by giving the student the opportunity to
directly experience their own inner life systematically through the daily
practice of Transcendental Meditation. More

What is Transcendental
Meditation?
Transcendental Meditation™ (TM) is a simple, easily learned and
practiced mental technique resulting in deep rest. This deep rest is able
to normalise the many stresses and strains that result from life today.
It is undertaken twice daily for a few minutes morning and evening. It
is an entirely natural technique and therefore is both easy to learn and
practise. It requires no special aptitude or belief, nor is it affiliated
with any particular religion.
Extensive research over the last thirty years validates this technique
as effective in optimising physiological functioning, enlivening creativity,
building inner strength and developing a more fruitful social aptitude. These
benefits occur spontaneously and are not the result of intellectual conditioning.
Improvements in the physiology due to a greater ability to rest naturally
results in improved mental faculties.Visit our Research
page.

Why is it necessary
for my child to practice TM?
This technique is the foundation of Consciousness-Based Education because
the effects and experience gained over time from the daily practice of
this simple technique provide great strength to the individual. Also,
experience has shown that even from the start people begin to notice benefits
in their daily activities. It's as if the foundation of the individual,
their very individuality and consciousness, is enlivened and nourished
by this daily practice.

Why do
the parents need to practice TM also?
We know that children need encouragement and inspiration to do the right
thing. If parents know what this practice of meditation is they are better
able to create an environment where the habit of daily practice is supported.
It is the twice-daily practice, every day, that creates the good
results of TM not just meditating in Term time.
We know it is sometimes difficult for our younger children to understand
the wider consequences of their actions. We know that a child finds practicing
TM enjoyable but the wider implications may not interest them when they
are so busy with their fun-filled lives. We find as our students
move into their teenage years they are delighted to learn more about the
beneficial effects of this practice and how it can influence not only
themselves but their society as a whole. See Maharishi
Effect.
So what are the wider or long-term consequences of this mediation? Our
students are expanding the conscious capacity of their minds and hearts
through this technique of deep rest. This is indicated in the research
and reflects the subjective experience gained. Their physiologies are
supporting them more and more in the fulfillment of their desires. They
are growing in integrity and moral strength.
Just like growing up, this process happens gradually, naturally, without
being remarked upon from day to day. As parents it is easier for
us to value the importance of regular daily practice and how the benefits
accrue over time. With this understanding we can better encourage our
children.

What is your
policy on bullying?
Every school today strives to eliminate bullying from their playground.
Some children suffer dreadfully, others avoid it completely. It is a fact
of life that some people for whatever reason need to demonstrate their
physical superiority in order to gain some power for themselves. Our method
of addressing this issue occurs on several levels. We ensure that all
children are well known to all staff in the school. This can happen in
a small class-size school. Behaviour is well monitored and good behaviour
is acknowledged and recognised. No child need be confused about what constitutes
good behaviour. Both the child who may bully and the child who may
be bullied are easily visible to staff. Issues are addressed immediately.
No-one need feel intimidated by this process.
A crucial ingredient in a school free of bullying is the exemplary behaviour
of all staff. Our staff gain extensive training in Consciousness-Based
Education, part of which is a high expectation of their own behaviour.
It is fortunate that a naturally accruing benefit of TM is increased moral
fortitude. If an indivdual begins to feel more secure from within they
are less likely to bully others. So from the fundamental level of their
own inner life a child begins to feel stronger and he or she naturally
begins to prefer more life-supporting activities.
