In 2022, each student created a wonderful piece of artwork based on an Australian threatened species for the Australian Conservation Foundation’s Wild At Art competition. The Foundation was impressed with the student’s work and requested to film the students outlining their experience in creating their artworks to publish on their website. Enjoy the beautiful celebration of student achievement; there is so much talent and passion that exists within the Maharishi School community.

School Production - Grandmother Moon

When I look at the stars it makes me want to tell a story. Up there, it’s a reflection of our Dreaming” - Wayne Thorpe on the role of the night sky in preserving his culture

Led and advised by First Nations people, Grandmother Moon was an exploration of astronomy and our earth, through the lens of Aboriginal culture and storytelling. Using installation art, physical performance, music and puppetry, Grandmother Moon engaged the school, community and artists in the connection of the stars, planets and our earth through Dreaming.

Grandmother Moon was an immersive, site-specific, interactive performance-installation work. Created by and with the students of Maharishi School, Grandmother Moon brought our school community together to experience a one-night-only festival style atmosphere, with a ‘choose your own adventure’ experience of seven performance and interactive sites running concurrently. Each told the story of “The Emu in the Sky”.

Grandmother Moon was created across two terms, from February to May 2021. It was presented by the staff and students of Maharishi School and Barking Spider Visual Theatre. This Education Partnership was supported by the Victorian Government through Creative Victoria.
